Members of the Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, Otsego and Presque Isle County Farm Bureaus recently made a $1,000 donation to Good Samaritan Family Services in Ellsworth as part of Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) District 11’s ongoing efforts to fight hunger in Michigan.
Good Samaritan Family Services’ food pantry feeds around 2,000 people each month, with most of their food items being purchased at a large discount from their local Manna food bank.
District 11 received the funds for the donation in recognition of their efforts throughout 2024, including taking the top spot in Harvest for All activities — an annual contest hosted by the State Young Farmer Committee that encourages county Farm Bureaus to report their efforts to fight against hunger in their communities, including organizing events, raising funds, and volunteering their time.
Members of District 11 logged more than 1,000 hours of volunteer time, donated nearly 24,000 pounds of commodities and food, and generously gave more than $106,000 in 2024. The district was recognized at MFB’s 2025 Growing Together conference, where Michigan State University’s Farm Bureau Collegiate chapter was also awarded $250 for their efforts.
District 11 played an integral role in helping Michigan lead all states in raising money for the Harvest for All program for the third consecutive year and take second place in overall volunteer hours nationally.
MFB donated $364,800 through fundraising activities conducted by Michigan county Farm Bureaus and the Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan Agent Charitable Fund.
Nationally, farm families donated 34.8 million pounds of food and raised $658,606 to help fight hunger and assist in other community service outreach last year. Combined, the monetary and food donations totaled the equivalent of 29 million meals.
